Responsible business

A partnership needs a written operating picture

Shared goals do not replace a clear account of responsibilities.

Describe how the work is divided

Before starting a joint project, identify who owns each deliverable, who approves spending and who communicates with the customer. Explain how changes and delays will be handled. Keep the operating description consistent with the actual agreement and ask advisers about legal or ownership questions. A handshake about a common mission does not settle those details.

Plan for disagreement

Agree on how an issue is raised and which records will be used to resolve it. Distinguish a routine scope change from a decision that needs a revised agreement. Define how work can end without leaving customer commitments or private information unmanaged. This is an organizational checklist, not a substitute for a professionally reviewed partnership contract.

A short working checklist

  • Assign deliverables, approvals and customer contact.
  • Record how changes and disagreements are addressed.
  • Plan an orderly handoff if the project ends.
